Ghana is moving closer to establishing its own national airline

Ghana is moving closer to establishing its own national airline, a development welcomed by political analyst Dr David Matsanga as a significant step for both the country and the continent.

“An airline is the pride of Africa. It will make travel within the continent easier and strengthen unity,” Matsanga said, highlighting the potential for improved regional connectivity.

The proposed carrier is expected to enhance domestic and regional travel, support tourism, and facilitate trade, while also showcasing Ghana’s ambition to be a key player in Africa’s growing aviation sector.

Observers point to successful examples such as Ethiopia and Rwanda, where national airlines have strengthened links between African nations, cut travel times, and boosted economic opportunities. For Ghana, a homegrown carrier could simplify travel to major West African destinations, benefiting business, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
