Authorities in Ghana say 28 Ghanaian nationals have been rescued from Ivory Coast following a joint security operation targeting a human trafficking syndicate.
The rescued citizens have since returned home.
According to Ghana’s Foreign Ministry, the victims were allegedly lured with promises of well-paying jobs in Europe before being exploited and extorted by traffickers.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa warned the public to be cautious of increasingly sophisticated trafficking networks operating across the region.
