The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has formally received the letters of credence of Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador, McArios Akanbeanab Akanbong.
The presentation ceremony took place at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, solidifying Akanbong’s official status as Ghana’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary envoy to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and its permanent representative to the continental body.
During the audience, Youssouf welcomed the veteran career diplomat, praising Ghana’s foundational and enduring role in pan-African unity and regional development. The two leaders discussed critical pathways to tighten collaboration between the commission and Accra, specifically focusing on continental trade integration, regional security, and institutional reforms within the AU framework.
Akanbong expressed his gratitude for the reception and reiterated Ghana’s unwavering commitment to the strategic goals of the AU, promising to use his diplomatic tenure to advance economic diplomacy, shared stability, and the realisation of Agenda 2063.
