Government of National Unity

It’s been two years since South Africa’s (SA) Government of National Unity (GNU) was formed after no party secured an outright majority in the 2024 general elections.

Since then, the coalition has weathered political disagreements, policy clashes and a budget impasse, while also claiming progress in key areas of governance.

Political analysts say the GNU has delivered mixed results but remains one of the most significant shifts in SA’s democratic history.

Former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo presided over the ceremony at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Western Cape Province.
