South African (SA) Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Angie Motshekga says State Security Agency (SSA) is engaging with Russian government to see how it can help South Africans who are stuck in Russia.
It is reported that about 17 South Africans went to Russian under false pretence of being trained as security personnel.
Minister Motshekga was addressing SANDF officials during the fourth Vukuhlome exercise in Lohatla in Northern Cape.
She says they are aware of the matter and they will see how best they can resolve it.
“We are very much aware. Our investigations are being led by the State Security Agency. We are engaging with the Russian government on this matter but it is still at a sensitive stage. I don’t wish to continue with the matter but we are engaging to see if we can assist.”
