The transitional government of Guinea-Bissau has announced a series of new appointments to strategic administrative roles, including the Directorate-General of Taxes and the Bissau City Council.
The reshuffle follows decisions by transitional President General Horta Inta-a to dismiss both the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Fisheries, though official reasons for their sudden removal were not disclosed.
Several newly appointed officials have been identified by local media as having links to the previous administration, while others are returning to positions they previously held, raising questions among observers regarding administrative continuity and political alignment.
Analysing the developments, sociologist and university lecturer Infali Donqui noted that the cabinet dismissals and institutional appointments reflect deepening political and institutional friction as the country navigates its fragile transitional process.
