The Government of Guinea, working with the World Bank Group, has launched the Guinea AgriConnect Compact, a strategic framework intended to accelerate agrifood transformation, strengthen food plus nutrition security, create decent jobs, plus position agriculture as a driver of inclusive growth plus industrialisation.

The compact aligns with the Simandou 2040 Agenda, specifically Pillar 1, which identifies agriculture plus livestock as central to economic diversification, export development, plus job creation. The approach brings together the Government, the World Bank Group’s International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), technical plus financial partners, private sector actors, plus producer organisations. AgriConnect focuses on three coordinated priorities: rural infrastructure, public reforms plus investments, plus mobilisation of private finance around shared goals for agricultural transformation, job creation, plus food security.

World Bank Group Resident Representative for Guinea Issa Mare Diaw said the compact is designed to improve coordination across IDA, IFC, plus MIGA to support a “profound transformation” of agriculture. Diaw said the combination of reforms, public investment, plus private sector engagement aims to build more productive, resilient, inclusive agri-food systems that deliver food security while creating jobs.

Priority value chains include rice plus poultry, aimed at strengthening food security while reducing reliance on imports, supported by maize plus soybeans as strategic inputs. The compact also supports diversification plus export value chains, including fonio plus mangoes.

Minister of Agriculture Aminata Kaba said the compact is intended to position agriculture as a central pillar of economic transformation linked to opportunities created by the Simandou corridor. Kaba said the ambition includes long-term food security, decent jobs for youth plus women, plus competitive market-oriented agriculture.

Minister of Livestock Félix Lamah said the livestock sector is central to food security plus import substitution, particularly in poultry, with AgriConnect expected to improve access to maize plus soybeans while building more efficient, inclusive value chains.

By 2030, the compact aims to improve food plus nutrition security, create hundreds of thousands of direct plus indirect jobs, reduce dependence on imports of staples such as rice plus poultry, plus unlock export potential for products including fonio plus mangoes.

Minister of Economy, Finance plus Budget Mariama Ciré Sylla said the compact supports the ambition of building a more resilient, inclusive, prosperous Guinea while advancing economic sovereignty under the Simandou 2040 programme.
