Authorities in Guinea have issued a formal notice to all registered political parties, instructing them to comply with new requirements introduced after the country’s recent constitutional revision.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration has requested parties to submit updated statutory documents and regularise their internal structures within strict deadlines, warning that failure to comply could lead to administrative sanctions.

Among those affected are major opposition formations, including the Rally of the Guinean People, linked to former president Alpha Condé, and the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea, previously led by Cellou Dalein Diallo. The activities of both parties have been suspended for several months.

Political analyst and Director of the newspaper Le Populaire, Alpha Abdoulaye Diallo, says the move raises concerns about the future of political pluralism in the country.

“When authorities impose strict administrative conditions in a highly sensitive political climate, it inevitably creates suspicion,” Diallo said. “The risk is that these measures are perceived not as regulatory reforms, but as tools to narrow the democratic space.”

He added that while updating party statutes may appear administrative on the surface, the broader political context cannot be ignored.

“If the objective is transparency and institutional strengthening, then the process must be applied fairly and openly to all parties. Otherwise, it deepens mistrust between the authorities and the opposition,” he said.

Opposition figures maintain that the directive could weaken rival political groups ahead of future elections, while the government insists it is enforcing compliance with the revised constitutional framework.
