Alfred Bulakali, Regional Director of ARTICLE 19 for Senegal and West Africa, has urged authorities and citizens to respect human rights following violent protests in several Cameroonian cities.
The unrest comes as the country awaits the official release of election results, with local reports confirming at least four fatalities. Opposition leaders say roughly 30 politicians and activists have been detained in connection with the demonstrations.
The Cameroonian government has rejected claims of electoral irregularities, calling on the public to remain calm while awaiting the final results.
Bulakali highlighted the need for authorities to uphold the rights of all citizens and ensure that political tensions do not lead to further harm.
