The Head of Medical for Gift of the Givers, Dr Naeem Kathrada, has issued an urgent appeal to undocumented foreign nationals in South Africa (SA), asking them to stop showing up at the closed repatriation site and to contact their embassies instead.
The humanitarian group is currently working closely with regional diplomatic offices and neighborhood networks to get the word out to people who are stranded and trying to find a way back home safely.
“We’ve been in contact with the Zimbabwean Consulate General,” Kathrada said. “We’ve asked them if they have any channels to pass on those messages, and there have been some community leaders who have been here, and we’ve asked them to pass on that message via their WhatsApp chats.”
