SA counts down to the November 4, local government election

As South Africa (SA) counts down to the November 4, local government elections, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has launched a special issue of the Journal of African Elections.

The Chapter 9 institution worked with the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa on the publication.

It examines both progress and persistent challenges in ensuring elections reflect the true will of the people.

The release of the special journal on African elections, a central theme is political party funding and how to prevent financial influence from distorting voter choice.

With local government elections approaching, the IEC says it is engaging stakeholders to ensure credible and successful polls on November 4.

But challenges remain, post-election violence continues to threaten democratic stability in parts of Africa.

Experts are calling for stronger safeguards to uphold free and fair elections. The IEC says it will intensify voter education efforts.

Stressing the importance of participation in a transparent and accountable electoral process.
