South Africans who have not yet registered to vote, or who need to update their registration details, have a final opportunity to do so during this weekend’s voter registration drive.
The Electoral Commission (IEC) says it has finalised preparations, with 23 699 voting stations set to operate nationwide from 08:00 to 17:00 (local time) this Saturday and Sunday.
The commission’s Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo has called on eligible voters to use the opportunity to secure their place on the voters’ roll, ahead of the Local Government Elections in November.
“Expressing your political choice is an important part of exercising your citizenship. It’s about the policies that will shape our urban and rural communities, as well as access to the services that people need. Once the election is proclaimed, no additional voters can be added to the voters’ roll. That is why we are urging all eligible South Africans to make use of this opportunity.”
