South Africa’s (SA) parliamentary committee considering whether President Cyril Ramaphosa should face impeachment is seeking legal clarity over the rules governing his testimony.
The committee is drawing up its procedures after a court temporarily suspended its hearings and has been advised that the Ramaphosa can be compelled to appear if he declines an invitation to testify voluntarily.
Meanwhile SA court is due to deliver judgment in the high-profile Phala Phala farm theft case on November 2, after the prosecution and defence concluded their closing arguments.
Three people are on trial over the alleged theft of $580 000 in cash from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s game farm in February 2020.
One of the accused, a former domestic worker at the property, is alleged to have informed the others about money hidden inside a sofa.
