Conflict and violence

Conflict and violence drove a record 32.3 million internal displacements in 2025, surpassing disaster displacements for the first time on record.

This is according to the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2026 published by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) which is part of the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Conflict displacements have increased by 60% compared to 2024, driven by increasing international conflicts, persistent non-international armed conflicts and attacks on urban areas.

The total number of internally displaced persons has doubled in the last decade.
