As Sudan’s war grinds on, efforts to pursue justice are unfolding on multiple fronts, at home and abroad.
From courtrooms in Port Sudan to international investigations in The Hague, authorities say accountability for alleged atrocities is becoming an increasingly central part of the conflict’s next phase.
Women are bearing the brunt of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, with the majority of female-headed households not having enough food to eat, the United Nations (UN) report early in January.
“Female-headed households are now three times more likely to be food insecure. Three quarters of these households report not having enough to eat,” Jens Laerke, Spokesperson for the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs told reporters in Geneva.
UN Women has previously warned that women face the risk of sexual violence while searching for food.
