IOC is turning attention to young refugee

With just under 200 days to go before the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal’s Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is turning attention to young refugee athletes working towards their Olympic dreams.

The IOC says 34 young athletes are currently being supported through Olympic Solidarity, with the aim of qualifying for the first-ever Youth Refugee Olympic Team.

In Uganda, 12 of those athletes are taking part in a programme that uses sport to support mental health, encourage social inclusion and create opportunities for displaced young people.

Among them are sprinters and footballers who say they are determined to compete not only for themselves, but also for their communities and fellow refugees.
