Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ceasefire by three weeks following high-level talks at the White House brokered by United States (US) President Donald Trump.
The truce comes as fighting between Israel and Hezbollah remains a major obstacle to ending the wider eight-week US and Israel war on Iran.
Other flash points include Iran’s nuclear programme and control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Trump says he is in no rush to secure a peace deal, insisting he wants what he called “the best deal” and one that is “everlasting.”
Meanwhile, tensions remain high in the Gulf.
Trump says the US Navy has been ordered to shoot and sink any boats laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
In Tehran, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has dismissed Trump’s claims of division within Iran’s leadership, calling them hostile media tactics aimed at weakening national unity and security.
