Assistant coach of South Africa’s (SA) Kaizer Chiefs Cedric Kaze has described the club’s progression to the next stage of the African Football Confederation (CAF) Cup as a significant relief and a crucial opportunity to rebuild momentum.

The Johannesburg side advanced to the second round of the preliminary stage following a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout win against Angolan outfit Kabuscorp at FNB Stadium over the weekend. The match had ended 1-0 in favour of Amakhosi, leaving the aggregate score tied at 1-1 after 180 minutes of play.

Kaze, speaking after the match, admitted the result came at a much-needed moment for the team, which had endured a three-game winless streak, including two defeats. “Reaching the next round is a huge relief. It gives us the chance to instill positive momentum in the players’ minds, and training sessions will be more focused and lighter than before. The challenge now is to maintain this momentum moving forward,” he said.

The victory provides Chiefs with a fresh platform as they look to build consistency and confidence ahead of the rest of the competition.
