Government of Kenya is set to compensate nearly 2 000 victims
The government of Kenya is set to compensate nearly 2 000 victims of protest-related human rights abuses, following the release of the Framework for Reparations report on victims of human rights violations by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
President William Ruto says the compensation represents an acknowledgement that harm occurred, while stressing that it should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
According to officials, victims will receive pay-outs next week after a vetting process conducted by the state-funded human rights commission.
The total compensation package is expected to amount to about $15 million.
