A significant restructuring for Kenyan politics, Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has officially cut ties with President William Ruto’s ruling United Democratic Alliance to take control of the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).
Speaking on the political shift, Grassroots Journalism Kenya team leader Dennis Beru pointed out that the move completely reshapes the landscape ahead of the upcoming national elections. “This is now a very complicated scenario when it comes to the 2027 general election, especially for the mountain votes,” Beru said, noting that Nyoro’s emergence threatens to split a crucial regional bloc.
This exit intensifies competition for the influential Mount Kenya electorate. By stepping up to lead the PPK, Nyoro presents a direct challenge to both Ruto’s ruling party and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy and Civic Party, setting up a high-stakes power struggle in the region.
