Kenya Senator calls for special Senate sitting amid rising abductions, disappearances

The senator urged the Senate to demand immediate government action to halt these unconstitutional practices, emphasising the urgency of protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms.

The call for action comes in the wake of the recent discovery of five young Kenyan men, including a popular cartoonist, who went missing just before the Christmas holidays. Fortunately, they have been found alive, but their ordeal has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of citizens, particularly those critical of President William Ruto and his government.

“We need to dig deep to understand how and why people who are critics of President William Ruto and the government of the Republic of Kenya are disappearing and being abducted, some being found alive, some being found killed. The other people who have also been released, they are not in very good shape. And that is why a parliament cannot just keep quiet on such a grave matter of national importance,” said Nyandarua Senator John Methu.

Methu stressed the need for the Inspector General of Police to be summoned to parliament to provide a detailed account of the situation. “We need to invite the Inspector General of Police to come to parliament and give an account because the life and property of the people of Kenya is bestowed on our security apparatus. They are supposed to come to parliament so that they can give an account. How is it that the people who are being abducted are the only people who are the critics of the government of the day? And this is a matter that must be looked into,” Methu added.
