Kenya has announced plans to expand and modernise Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Kenya has announced plans to expand and modernise Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with construction expected to start in 2026.

President William Ruto confirmed the initiative, which will include a new passenger terminal, a second runway, and the development of an “Airport City” to reduce congestion at the busy facility. The Kenya Airports Authority says the project is designed to handle increasing passenger traffic and strengthen Nairobi’s position as a key aviation hub in East Africa.

The government is seeking both investors and public-private partnerships to support the scheme, which officials say will improve infrastructure, increase airport capacity, and contribute to economic growth.
