Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, and William Ruto, the President of Kenya, will co-chair the France-Africa Summit next week in Nairobi.
The meeting will bring together African and French leaders as well as business figures to explore investment opportunities and respond to rising global economic and security challenges.
Beyond trade and investment, discussions are expected to highlight sport and culture as tools for economic growth. The sensitive issue of restitution is also set to feature in talks among heads of state.
Peace and security will dominate the agenda, with continued instability in the Sahel region and conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo among key concerns.
Leaders are also expected to consider the wider impact of conflict in the Middle East, particularly disruptions to global oil supply chains. Around 30 African heads of state are expected to attend.
