Kenyan budget deficit seen narrowing in 2027/28: Finance Ministry

Kenya forecasts a budget ​deficit of 3.6% of gross ‌domestic product in its July 2027 to June 2028 fiscal budget, ​Finance Ministry Principal Secretary ​Chris Kiptoo said this Wednesday.
In June, ⁠Finance Minister John Mbadi ​said the budget deficit was forecast ​at 5.5% of gross domestic product in 2026/27.

Kiptoo said in a meeting ​to kick off public hearings ​for the 2027/28 budget that the economy ‌was ⁠forecast to grow 5.1% in 2027 and 5.2% in 2028, from an estimated 5.0% in 2026.
In ​June, the ⁠Finance Ministry had forecast 2027 growth at 5.2%.

Typically the ​fiscal budget is presented ​to ⁠parliament in June.

The 2027 budget will be presented earlier than ⁠that ​due to elections ​in August.
