Kenyan government classifies El Niño rains as national security threat across all 47 counties

The Kenyan government has classified upcoming El Niño heavy rainfalls as an imminent national security threat that could affect all 47 counties across the country.

Chairing an El Niño preparedness summit at his official residence in Karen, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki urged citizens to comply strictly with official disaster management and security directives to safeguard lives and property.

Kindiki warned that authorities will strictly enforce evacuation orders in high-risk zones, restricting movement where necessary to prevent severe casualties caused by swollen rivers and flash floods.

Emergency response agencies have alerted the public against ignoring safety warnings or attempting to cross flooded roads as heavy rains threaten infrastructure and vulnerable communities nationwide.
