Opposition leaders in Kenya have announced plans to stage a demonstration at the office of the country’s police Chief on Friday

Opposition leaders in Kenya have announced plans to stage a demonstration at the office of the country’s police Chief on Friday, accusing the government of frustrating their political activities.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who now heads the Democracy for the Citizens Party, and Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Patriotic Party, said they will lead supporters to the offices of Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja.

The two leaders claim that their rallies have repeatedly been disrupted, restricted or blocked, despite prior notification to authorities. They argue that this amounts to a coordinated effort to curtail opposition mobilisation.

Gachagua and Musyoka say they have formally raised their concerns with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, but allege that their complaints have gone unanswered.

Addressing supporters, the opposition figures urged Kenyans to attend the protest in large numbers, describing it as a stand for constitutional rights, including freedom of assembly and political participation.
