Kenyan runner Deborah Chemutai has won her first Absa Run Your City Joburg 10km title in South Africa (SA) after crossing the finish line in 32 minutes and 50 seconds during the sold-out Heritage Day race.
Competing in her second appearance in the series following a third-place finish in Tshwane last month, Chemutai led an all-Kenyan podium sweep in the women’s division. Compatriot Mercy Jelimo finished in second place with a time of 33 minutes and 10 seconds, while Easter Borura took third place in 33 minutes and 27 seconds. Karabo Mailula was the top-performing SA athlete, finishing sixth overall.
Expressing her excitement after the victory, Chemutai stated that she was very happy to win the race given the tough and difficult course, adding that she gave her best performance to secure her first series title.
