Kenya’s middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon is heading back to Eugene, a city in Oregon, United States, ready to chase a 38-year-old record at the 2026 Prefontaine Classic.
The meet will take place at Hayward Field, the University of Oregon’s famous track stadium, where the women’s mile will be part of the Diamond League for the first time.
Kipyegon enters as the favourite. She is the only woman in history to hold both the 1500m and 5000m world records at the same time.
The four-time Olympic medallist has made history with three consecutive 1500m golds in Rio, Tokyo, and Paris, plus a silver in the 5000m.
