Land degradation and desertification are putting growing pressure on food security, livelihoods and ecosystems, particularly across Africa’s drylands.
The United Nations (UN) conference on desertification and land degradation, COP17, is taking place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
This is bringing together governments, scientists, farmers and pastoralist communities to discuss how degraded land can be restored and how countries can better prepare for drought.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations is calling for pastoralists to be placed at the centre of these efforts, recognising their role in managing rangelands and the importance of these ecosystems to their livelihoods.
