The Lesotho’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has appointed new Commissioner.
With just under two years to prepare for the next national assembly elections, the new IEC Chairperson Doctor Johne Maphephe says his vast knowledge of elections in the continent and beyond has prepared him for the task at hand.
Lesotho’s incoming IEC Commissioners is comprised of fresh faces that has brought mixed feelings.
Some of these Commissioners are highly qualified, while some bring a wealth of experience and institutional memory in running elections.
Maphephe says one of his top priorities is to push for legislation that allows the use of the national identity as a primary document.
He says this is what will help clean up the voter registration list, but more importantly to test the appetite on the use of the current electoral model.
