Liberia’s para-athletes have received a hero’s welcome after the Liberia Amputee National Team secured a silver medal at the maiden West African Para Games in Nigeria, marking a proud moment for the country’s growing para-sport community.
The men’s amputee football team reached the final after a string of determined performances but fell just short of the title, losing 1–0 to hosts Nigeria in a hard-fought contest. Although the Liberians missed out on gold, their resilience and disciplined play won admiration across the region.
Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated that disability does not limit ability, advancing through the stages with tactical organisation, persistence and a strong sense of national pride. Their run to the final underscored Liberia’s rising presence in West African para-sport.
Richard Duo, Vice-President for Administration at the Amputee Football and Sports Association of Liberia, was among the first to praise the squad, calling their silver-medal finish a historic milestone for the country and a source of inspiration for young para-athletes nationwide.
