Mozambique is set for a major shake-up in its tourism landscape

Mozambique is set for a major shake-up in its tourism landscape after two new investments were unveiled for Inhambane Province, raising hopes that the southern region could become one of Africa’s next high-end travel hubs.

One of the projects, a $150 million integrated resort earmarked for Vilanculos, will include a marina and an ecological reserve built to international standards. The development is expected to create roughly 600 jobs, offering a significant boost to local employment.

Tourism authorities say these investments come at an important moment for Inhambane, a province long celebrated for its natural beauty but often overlooked by large private investors.

Nuno Fortes, who heads Investment and Development Services at the National Institute of Tourism, says the impact will be felt well beyond the construction phase. “This kind of commitment strengthens the sector and opens real opportunities for people living in the province,” he said. “Inhambane has enormous potential, and developments of this scale help place Mozambique firmly on the map as a luxury destination.”

Tourism remains one of the country’s strongest prospects for long-term growth, and officials hope the latest projects will encourage further investment in infrastructure, hospitality and conservation-led initiatives across the region.
