Malawian government has repatriated 150 of its citizens
The Malawian government has repatriated 150 of its citizens from South Africa (SA).
The move by Malawian officials follows concerns over reported xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants.
The repatriation forms part of a coordinated voluntary return programme, with the first two buses departing from SA’s Western Cape province on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The Malawian government says the operation was carried out through a multi-agency effort involving a Malawi Task Team deployed to SA under the co-ordination of the Malawi High Commission in SA.
