Persistent electricity shortages in Malawi have escalated to critical levels, severely disrupting businesses, workers, and households reliant on a stable power grid.

The prolonged blackouts have dealt a heavy blow to traders and small businesses, many of whom are struggling to maintain daily productivity and basic income as power cuts grow more frequent. While some commercial entities have transitioned to generators to keep operations afloat, the majority of ordinary citizens remain excluded from alternative energy sources due to widespread poverty and the rising cost of petrol and diesel fuel.

The worsening crisis continues to trigger widespread concern over its long-term damage to local livelihoods, national economic activity, and access to essential services across the country.
