Technical advisor of the Malawi women’s football team, Sudesh Singh, says the Scorchers have full confidence they can defeat Algeria in their upcoming CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-final on Wednesday.
Singh, alongside fellow South African compatriot Tyrese Steyn, who serves as the team’s performance analyst, joined Malawi ahead of the tournament.
The duo has helped steer the Scorchers through a historic WAFCON debut, which has already seen them secure a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
While acknowledging that Algeria presents a formidable tactical challenge, Singh maintains that Malawi’s positive mindset can carry them into the final.
“We have the belief that we can win this game because we enter every match trying to play positive football and trying to win,” said Singh. “Algeria have a good coach and they are well organized on the field. They don’t have many outstanding individual players, but as a collective, as a unit, they are very well equipped as you can see by the results achieved. But we still believe that we can go on to beat them and reach the final.”
