Internationally acclaimed Malian scholar Professor Cherif Keita is among the recipients of South Africa’s (SA) National Orders this year.

SA President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to present the honours to distinguished South Africans and foreign nationals this Tuesday.

Keita will receive the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo, which recognises foreign nationals who have shown friendship and support to SA.

He is being honoured for preserving the story and legacy of Nokuthela Dube, a pioneering SA woman who played an important role in the early formation of the African National Congress in the 1890s.

Meanwhile, the late Antonio Gomez of Mozambique will also be honoured for supporting SA’s liberation struggle and assisting anti-apartheid activists despite facing serious personal risks.
