March and March is planning a protest at the SADC summit
As regional leaders gather in South Africa, Durban’s KwaZulu-Natal Province, for the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit, anti-undocumented migration group March and March is planning a protest, accusing the government of failing to address concerns over illegal immigration.
The group’s Teresa Nortje says President Cyril Ramaphosa has not adequately responded to their grievances and is calling for stronger action against undocumented foreign nationals.
While stressing that they support foreign nationals living and working legally in SA, protesters say they will continue demonstrating until the government listens to and acts on their demands.
“”I am not going to disagree with you on that one. But more needs to be done, because at this given point in time, it seems like the government is for illegal, undocumented foreigners. Why are you not assisting your people in SA? Why now you want to come and make a big hoo-ha because of the other African leaders that are here? And also, we get threats, nothing gets done about that. But whenever they get threats, then they are quick to go open cases against us and take us to court. And it needs to end. And also, by the look of today, I see all the police here, right? So, the police are here because there’s a march being arranged.”
