McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella has played down speculation linking Oscar Piastri with a move to Red Bull and addressed reports regarding changes to the team’s leadership structure.

Piastri is currently under contract with McLaren until at least the end of 2027. Recent speculation has suggested the Australian driver could be a target for Red Bull in the event of changes to its driver lineup.

Speaking ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Stella said the team remains satisfied with its current pairing of Piastri and Lando Norris. Stella said performance and team dynamics are stable, and there is no indication of change.

Stella described the speculation as part of the wider transfer rumours that typically circulate during the Formula One season. Stella said the team’s position is focused on continuity and maintaining its current structure.

Stella said Piastri has shown improvement both on and off the track, adding that the relationship between Piastri and Norris has contributed to team stability. Stella said the current environment supports performance and long-term development.

Stella also addressed speculation about his own future, following reports linking the McLaren Team Principal to other roles in Formula One. Stella said commitment remains with McLaren, where the focus is on continuing results and building on recent competitive gains.

Attention has also turned to the expected arrival of Gianpiero Lambiase, currently a race engineer at Red Bull, who is due to join McLaren in 2028 as Chief Racing Officer. Reports have suggested Lambiase could take on a broader leadership role within the team.

Stella said the recruitment reflects McLaren’s approach to strengthening technical and management capability. Stella said the team is focused on building a structure that supports performance and long-term planning.

Stella said leadership expansion is intended to support existing management rather than indicate changes in senior roles. Stella said the addition of experienced personnel is part of a strategy to improve team operations.

The comments come amid a period where Formula One teams are linked with multiple driver and leadership changes ahead of future seasons. Stella said McLaren’s current focus remains on performance and stability within the team structure.

McLaren has indicated that maintaining continuity in both drivers and leadership remains a priority as the team continues its current development programme.
