African migrants with long-standing roots in South Africa (SA) are fleeing a wave of attacks that has left many feeling increasingly unsafe in communities they have called home for years.
Among those affected is 33-year-old Princess Adjei, who opened a hair salon in downtown Durban in November.
She has lived in SA since arriving from Ghana as a toddler, completed her schooling locally, speaks Zulu, and had long considered SA her only home.
Her salon was looted during the recent violence, deepening her sense of insecurity and displacement.
