MISA demands employer support for workers amid major vehicle recalls

The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) has urged South African (SA) motorists to respond quickly to vehicle recall notices, stressing that they are critical to protecting lives and improving road safety.

The union’s call follows a major safety recall by the National Consumer Commission (NCC) targeting several Jaguar Land Rover models equipped with the AJ-20-D6 three-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. According to the NCC, a mechanical defect could cause sudden engine oil leaks, creating a severe slip hazard for other road users, particularly motorcyclists.

MISA Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola pointed out that vehicle safety is a collective effort, adding that employers also have a distinct responsibility to support their staff by allowing them time off to get their vehicles serviced during safety campaigns.
