Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has played down concerns over Nayef Aguerd’s fitness, saying the defender is fully fit

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has played down concerns over Nayef Aguerd’s fitness, saying the defender is fully fit and available for Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations Group A encounter against Mali.

The coach confirmed, however, that captain Romain Saiss will miss the match after picking up a muscle injury during Morocco’s opening 2–0 win over Comoros. Regragui also provided an update on Achraf Hakimi, revealing that the full-back is still recovering from an ankle problem sustained while on club duty with Paris Saint-Germain last month and may only feature for a limited period.

Regragui also spoke highly of teenage defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, describing the 19-year-old as a “great talent” and one of the promising prospects in the squad.

Morocco made a strong start to the tournament with victory over Comoros and can book their place in the knockout stages with a win against Mali at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
