Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party has formed a four-party governing coalition with the nationalist Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces and the Party of Progress and Socialism.
Led by Prime Minister Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, the coalition marks a historic moment, with El Mansouri becoming Morocco’s first female head of government.
The centrist and moderate-left alliance commands 207 seats in the 395-member House of Representatives, securing a parliamentary majority.
The coalition is finalising its cabinet lineup for royal approval as it faces mounting pressure to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and high youth unemployment.
