Despite recent anti-immigrant marches in South Africa (SA), some Mozambicans who left the country are now returning.
Transport operators at the Baixa and Junta border terminals in Maputo say demand for travel back to SA has increased, with several 15-seater vehicles leaving daily.
Operators say they have seen a noticeable rise in the number of passengers travelling to SA.
Mozambique has also become a transit route for African migrants returning to their home countries from SA.
The former Mozambican and SA First Lady, Graça Machel, says the Southern African Development Community, should play a more active role in responding to the situation.
Machel also says greater investment in agriculture is essential to tackle hunger and reduce the pressures drive migration.
