Mozambique to draft law allowing state to seize fraudulently acquired property

The Mozambican Cabinet has agreed to draft new legislation that will allow the state to confiscate property and assets acquired through fraudulent or corrupt means.

The decision was reached during a recent executive council meeting, where Ministers evaluated new policy measures designed to crack down on financial crime and illicit enrichment. Under the proposed law, authorities will have the legal power to seize buildings, houses, and other assets if they are found to have been purchased or constructed using proceeds from illegal activities.

Government officials highlighted that the move is part of a broader campaign to strengthen transparency, enforce accountability, and curb systemic corruption across the country.
