Mozambique has introduced emergency measures to ease pressure on fuel supplies, allowing filling stations to purchase fuel from any licensed distributor.

The move by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy is aimed at stabilising the market amid ongoing supply disruptions.

Authorities say the situation has been driven by a mix of internal and external factors, including rising global oil prices linked to the Middle East conflict, foreign currency constraints, and increased demand, partly influenced by consumption from neighbouring countries.

Mozambican economist Eduardo Sengo says the crisis highlights deeper structural pressures in the economy, with fuel supply remaining vulnerable to global shocks and domestic financial constraints.
