President Daniel Chapo says Mozambique wants to strengthen co-operation with Ugand

President Daniel Chapo says Mozambique wants to strengthen co-operation with Uganda, particularly in the fight against terrorism.

Chapo made the remarks in Kampala during the inauguration ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who has been sworn in for another term in office.

He highlighted Uganda’s experience in counterterrorism efforts, saying it could play an important role in supporting stability operations in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province, where armed insurgency has displaced thousands of people in recent years.

Political analyst Gustavo Mavie said the growing co-operation reflects Mozambique’s efforts to strengthen regional security partnerships.

“Mozambique is looking for practical regional support in dealing with the security challenges in Cabo Delgado, and Uganda’s experience in combating armed groups is seen as valuable,” Mavie said.

He added that stronger co-operation between African countries could help improve intelligence sharing, military coordination and long-term regional stability.
