Mozambique’s energy future is getting a massive boost with news that the long-awaited Mphanda Nkuwa hydroelectric power station is expected to create around 7 000 jobs and bring in a staggering $13.98 billion in revenue.
According to the country’s Information Office, construction on the mega-project is set to kick off in 2029, with full commercial operations expected to start in 2034.
The project sits right at the heart of Mozambique’s broader plan to expand its electricity grid and fuel local industry. Beyond giving the domestic economy a serious lift, the development is drawing strong backing from international financial institutions, putting the country on track to become a major powerhouse for clean energy across Southern Africa.
