The National Language Summit is expected to commence this Monday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Western Cape province, South Africa (SA).

The two-day summit will bring together government representatives, language experts, academics, civil society, business leaders, and other stakeholders.

This is an effort to address persistent challenges in multilingualism and advance the equal use and development of SA’s 12 official languages.

The summit forms part of the country’s contribution to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages Global Action Plan.

It seeks to raise awareness about indigenous language preservation, revitalisation, and promotion of indigenous languages in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
