Six suspects have escaped from the Lydenburg Police Station in the South African (SA) province of Mpumalanga

The suspects were arrested for crimes such as murder, rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm and malicious damage to property.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson, Mpho Nonyane-Mpe says two of the suspects are Mozambican nationals.

Nonyane-Mpe has urged members of the public who may have useful information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the police.

“The escape was discovered during a routine camp inspection when the officers noticed a leaking water pipe outside one of the cells. Upon further inspection, police found a hole in the wall, and it was established that the basin sink had been removed from the wall, resulting in the structural damage that facilitated the escape. The following suspects are currently at large. Fana Fenyane, Isaac Malope, Sergio Mandoza, Francisco Vasco Maganja, France Malatjie and Clayton Flank,” Mpe said.
