Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has publicly confirmed that two Kenyan activists who went missing in Uganda last month were arrested by security forces.
The men, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, disappeared after attending a political gathering in support of opposition leader Bobi Wine.
Witnesses had reported seeing them being taken away by masked officers, but officials had previously denied any involvement. Their release was confirmed over the weekend after five weeks in detention.
During a live interview, Museveni referred to the pair as “experts in riots” who had been “put in the fridge for some days.” He made the comments while responding to questions about recent youth protests in neighbouring Tanzania.
